FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Is there internet/WIFI?

A. Yes, there is. Each villa has free internet and WIFI access however you may notice it is a bit slower than what you may be used to. Most residential structures in the Dominican Republic are made primarily with concrete and rebar to help keep the heat out and to withstand earthquakes and hurricanes. But you’re here for a vacation in the sun so some slow internet shouldn’t be too big of an issue, right!?

Q. I normally stay at all-inclusive resorts, why would I want to stay in a private villa?

A. One of the main reasons a private villa is so attractive is because it is private. You don’t have to worry about coming into contact with hundreds of other people and their germs. Let’s face it, transmittable viruses, flus, and colds are spread so easily, and many people don’t want to risk their health. But they still want to go on vacation. Renting a private villa allows you to enjoy the sun, beach, and warmth in your own backyard. Relax in the pool with the people you travelled with, not a whole bunch of strangers. Eat outside in the backyard or one of the outdoor restaurants where there is fresh air and lots of space between tables.

Q. What is there to do in Sosua, Puerto Plata.

A. Many, many things. Sosua is located in between the city of Puerto Plata and Cabarete. You will find many local dining areas, beaches, and night life within a 10-minute driving area. Cabarete and Kite Beach are about a 15–20-minute drive and you can walk along the beautiful miles-long beach, watch all the kite surfers, or even join in, and stop for a swim and a bite to eat at one of the many beachside restaurants. Go inland a bit and you can hike up the majestic 27-Waterfalls or go up into the mountains and experience zip lining or a gondola ride. We have a working relationship with many of the vendors of these attractions and can help you schedule your excursion.

Q. How do I get around the town?

A. There are many ways to get to where you want to go. If you want to be able to come and go as you, please, the easiest way is to rent a vehicle. There are places and individuals who rent out a fleet of vehicles or their own personal vehicle, sometimes for a little as $35 USD per day. Navigating the streets here can be a bit tricky though. If you don’t feel comfortable driving, you can always use an Uber or taxi.

Q. Will I be safe?

A. Most private villas or condos are in gated communities. The level of security measures does vary greatly however most of these communities are relatively safe. Some villas also have iron bars on the doors and windows as décor and added security. Like anywhere in the world though, there are certain personal safety measures one can take to help avoid becoming a victim of crime such as:
• Do not flaunt your money or jewelry
• Always be aware of your surroundings
• Do not go out walking by yourself at night in dimly lit areas
• Avoid areas of town where unsavory activity tends to happen

Q. Are there any additional fees?

A. Amber Coast Management & Concierge (ACMC) does not add in any extra fees for electricity, linens, etc. In the rare occurrence that an issue does arise and additional cleaning or repairs are required, ACMC will submit a claim through Airbnb or contact the guest personally.

Q. Are there TV’s in the bedrooms?

A. Most of our villas do have TV’s in each bedrooms. If you are inquiring about a villa and it does not, we usually let you know so you are informed before booking and are not disappointed. If having a TV in the bedroom is a deal-breaker, be sure to inquire about that specifically prior to booking your reservation.

Q. Is there Air Conditioning?

A. Most of our villas have Air Conditioners in the bedrooms for the comfort when sleeping. There are some villas that have an AC in the main living room however not all. If having Air Conditioning in the living room is a deal-breaker, be sure to inquire about that specifically prior to booking your reservation.

Q. Is there daily cleaning and linen changes?

A. NO. Although we are in the Dominican Republic and you may be on vacation, it is essential to remember you are staying at an Airbnb (someone’s home) and not a hotel. ACMC provides a mid-stay cleaning for reservations over 4 days.  Additional cleaning can be arranged for an additional fee upon request.

Q. What are the house rules?

A. Most house rules are basic rules that would be followed in my personal home, and would apply anywhere you stay whether in an all-inclusive resort or an Airbnb anywhere in the world.

  1. NO smoking of ANY kind inside the villa – lingering odours of smoke and other substances are very hard to remove and can negatively impact the next guest.

  2. NO loud music at any time, quiet hours apply from 10pm to 8am – just like any regular neighbourhood anywhere in the world, we all have to live together peacefully. We understand you’re on vacation but your neighbours might live here full time. We want you to enjoy your surroundings and music can be a big part of that but we ask you to keep it at a decibel level for your enjoyment only. Gated communities have strict noise policies and they are enforced.

  3. AC use – the air conditioners are there to provide relief from the heat and humidity however electricity is very expensive in the DR. We ask you to turn off the AC’s when you are not in those specific rooms and when you are not even in the villa. It takes only a few minutes to cool off a room and by doing this you will help avoid over-taxation on the power grids.

Q. Will the villa have hot water?

A. Short answer – YES. Longer answer – you may have to run the shower for a few minutes before the hot water gets to you. Some villas have a hot water tank that is heated with a pilot light and propane, others have a tankless on-demand system – either way it may take a few minutes for the hot water to reach you.

Q. Can I drink the water?

A. We provide drinking water in each villa with the use of a water dispenser. Some villas have a water filtration system that makes the water potable. We notify each guest during our check-in process if the water is potable or not.

Q. Are community amenities included?

A. NO. Each gated community offers the use of their amenities such as water parks, gym access, and some restaurants. These amenities are provided by the community and not ACMC therefore payment is required for access.

Q. Is free transportation provided?

A. In some gated communities you do have access to a free shuttle (Casa Linda) that has regular drop off/pick up spots such as the beach and grocery stores.  Other communities do not provide any such service. There are many reputable professional drivers and taxi drivers that we can recommend upon request to help you get around.
